Key points05
- Shein invests €500m in its Wrocław European hub, bringing total Polish investment to €1bn since 2022.
- Workforce at the hub will reach 10,000 by the end of the calendar year.
- Warehouse footprint grows 25% to around 1 million m² with more than 6,500 autonomous robots.
- Over 230 Polish SMEs supply goods and services to the operation.
- The investment follows the EU's €3 customs duty on shipments under €150 introduced on 1 July.
Shein is investing €500 million (around £417m) in its European Logistics Hub in Wrocław, Poland, lifting total investment in the country to €1bn since 2022. The expansion will bring the site's workforce to 10,000 people by the end of the calendar year, making Wrocław one of the largest single e-commerce fulfilment operations on the continent.
The enlarged facilities add 25% to the warehouse footprint, bringing the campus to roughly 1 million m² — about 10 million sq ft, or the equivalent of some 140 football pitches. Automation sits at the core of the build-out: more than 6,500 autonomous robots will operate across the site, moving goods through picking, sorting and packing flows that would otherwise require thousands of additional manual shifts.
The hub is also an anchor for the regional supply base. More than 230 local Polish small-and-medium-sized enterprises provide goods and services to the operation, tying Shein's growth to a domestic vendor network rather than a purely import-driven model.
Why the timing matters
The investment lands as online retailers absorb the impact of the new €3 (£2.50) customs duty introduced on 1 July. The charge applies to low-value shipments valued under €150 (£125) entering the European Union from outside the bloc, and it directly raises the landed cost of the direct-from-Asia parcel model that Shein, Temu and their peers built their growth on.
For shippers and forwarders serving the e-commerce channel, a 1 million m² hub inside the EU changes the economics. Stock positioned in Wrocław can be fulfilled to European customers without repeated per-parcel customs clearance, shifting volumes from air freight and express parcel lanes into intra-EU road and rail distribution.
What Shein is saying
Leonard Lin, Shein's global head of public affairs and president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, framed the commitment in expansive terms. "Europe is a key market for Shein, and we are committed to investing in the infrastructure and capabilities needed to support our long-term growth across the region," he said.
"Our €500m investment in Poland this year is a clear demonstration of that commitment, and of our confidence in the long-term potential of our European business," Lin added.
He was equally direct about the country's role in the network: "Poland has become a cornerstone of our European operations, and this latest investment reflects our confidence in the country, its workforce and its business environment."
Commercial read-through
For carriers and 3PLs, 10,000 staff and 6,500 robots under one roof signal sustained demand for intra-European fulfilment capacity around Wrocław, a logistics node already well served by motorway links to Germany and the Czech Republic. Local SMEs in packaging, maintenance and transport services gain a customer of scale, though one with formidable bargaining power.
The move also signals how e-commerce operators are adapting to a tightening duty regime. Rather than shrinking exposure to Europe, Shein is localising it — a pattern that, if replicated by rivals, would redistribute volumes from intercontinental express networks toward European warehousing and last-mile providers over the coming years.
