Key points05

  • LNGT Akdeniz is the ninth FSRU conversion awarded to Seatrium by Karpowership since 2018.
  • Conversion work begins Q1 2027 at Seatrium's Tuas Boulevard yard in Singapore.
  • Completed FSRU will deliver up to 600m standard cubic feet per day of regasification capacity.
  • Karpowership's Kinetics fleet will expand to 12 LNG vessels once LNGT Akdeniz and LNGT Karadeniz complete.
  • Seatrium has completed 22 FSRU and FSU conversion projects since 2007.

Singapore shipyard group Seatrium will convert a Karpowership-owned LNG carrier into the FSRU LNGT Akdeniz, the ninth such unit to pass through its yards under a partnership that has produced seven delivered vessels since 2018.

What's in the contract?

Seatrium will carry out engineering, conversion, integration, installation and commissioning of LNGT Akdeniz's regasification plant and supporting systems. The completed vessel is designed to deliver up to 600m standard cubic feet per day of regasification capacity, a specification that matches the floating storage regasification units (FSRUs) the Singapore yard has been assembling for the Turkish powership operator since the late 2010s.

Conversion work begins in the first quarter of 2027 at Seatrium's Tuas Boulevard yard in Singapore.

Where does this sit in the partnership pipeline?

LNGT Akdeniz is the second of three LNG-carrier conversions covered by a letter of intent (LOI) Karpowership signed with Seatrium in 2025, which also includes potential powership integration work. The eighth project, LNGT Karadeniz, started conversion in the third quarter of 2026 and will be the first to materialise under the LOI.

The award follows the September sailaway of LNGT Türkiye, the seventh and final vessel in the original conversion programme that ran from 2018 to 2025. With Türkiye delivered, the seat of operations shifts to the next two hulls.

What does the new vessel mean commercially?

LNGT Akdeniz will join Kinetics, Karpowership's dedicated LNG infrastructure and energy-transition business, bringing its fleet to 12 LNG vessels once both new conversions complete. The wider Karpowership group operates a 45-vessel powership fleet, pairing floating generation units with floating LNG import infrastructure in markets where rapid-deployment power supply is required.

For Seatrium, the deal extends a track record of 22 FSRU and FSU conversion projects completed since 2007, reinforcing its position as the default builder for Karpowership's floating LNG-to-power chain. For shippers and energy buyers, the addition of a 600m-scf/day regasification unit adds optionality to the global pool of deployable floating import capacity at a time when several emerging-market utilities are looking to bypass onshore terminal build-out.

Why was the deal disclosed now?

Seatrium framed the contract as a continuation of a multi-year delivery cadence rather than a one-off order. "The successful delivery of LNGT Türkiye and the award of LNGT Akdeniz are important milestones in the continued growth of Karpowership's LNG-to-power business," said Gokhan Kocak, Karpowership's chief technology officer.

Seatrium added that the newly converted vessel would support LNG import capability and energy security in its eventual target market. The yard did not name that market.

What happens next?

Work on LNGT Karadeniz continues through 2026 into 2027, with LNGT Akdeniz queued behind it at Tuas Boulevard. If the third conversion under the 2025 LOI is confirmed, Seatrium's FSRU order book will stretch into 2028, and Karpowership's powership-plus-LNG template will have a deeper supply of floating regasification capacity to pair with its installed generation base.
