Key points05

  • Muscat–Amsterdam flights rise from four weekly to daily on 1 December 2026.
  • The route launched on 1 July 2025 as the first direct Oman-Netherlands connection.
  • The B787-9 offers 14–18 metric tonnes of cargo capacity per flight.
  • Zurich summer capacity triples, with widebody aircraft on up to five weekly services.
  • Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Milan and Istanbul rise to as many as five flights weekly.

Oman Air will increase Muscat–Amsterdam flights from four a week to daily on 1 December 2026, adding three weekly departures in response to reported strong demand.

The move forms part of its Winter 2026/27 schedule and a wider European build-out. Oman Air said it “aims to continue expanding its presence in Europe,” while linking Omani cargo more closely with Amsterdam, described in the announcement as one of the continent’s major gateways.

What changes on 1 December?

The Muscat–Amsterdam service launched on 1 July 2025 as the first direct connection between Oman and the Netherlands. At launch, Oman Air operated four flights a week, establishing the service’s base frequency before the announced increase.

It has since become an important part of Oman Air’s growing European network. The December 2026 change raises scheduled frequency from four to seven flights a week, giving shippers three more weekly departure options without changing the route’s origin or European endpoint.

How much wider European capacity is changing?

The Muscat–Amsterdam increase arrives within a broader Winter 2026/27 schedule that expands several city pairs. Capacity to Zurich will triple compared with the summer season, supported by the deployment of widebody aircraft on up to five weekly services.

Frequencies to five other destinations will also increase, with each reaching as many as five flights per week:

  • Paris: as many as five flights per week.
  • Frankfurt: as many as five flights per week.
  • Munich: as many as five flights per week.
  • Milan: as many as five flights per week.
  • Istanbul: as many as five flights per week.

Taken together, the changes give Oman Air more weekly departures from Muscat, more European city-pair frequency and greater use of widebody equipment. That mix can spread network demand across a larger set of destinations rather than concentrating growth on the Dutch capital alone.

The announcement does not publish total weekly tonnage for the added Muscat services, aircraft assignments for the five other destinations or the summer baseline for each frequency increase. Shippers therefore have a clear timetable but not a complete capacity forecast.

What did the inaugural cargo flight carry?

The B787-9 operation described for Oman Air cargo’s inaugural 2025 flight to Amsterdam had cargo capacity of 14 to 18 metric tonnes. The aircraft carried several distinct categories of freight as the carrier established the new direct service.

The cargo mix included:

  • Pharmaceuticals.
  • Engineering spares.
  • Courier cargo.
  • Express cargo.

The 2025 launch also formed part of Oman Air’s ongoing plan to expand its European routes, a strategy that now extends into the Winter 2026/27 schedule. The listed cargo types indicate the mix carried on the inaugural operation, although the announcement provides no tonnage split among them.

What does this mean for shippers and forwarders?

For shippers, three additional weekly flights create more departure choices and can improve access to capacity, although Oman Air has not said how much of the 14–18 tonne per-flight payload will be available for sale.

For Oman Air, the schedule concentrates European growth around higher frequencies and widebody deployment rather than a new Amsterdam-only product. Daily Muscat–Amsterdam flying, triple the summer capacity to Zurich and increases to five other destinations give the carrier a broader base for distributing traffic across Europe.

For forwarders, the useful change is less a new city pair than more scheduled options from Muscat and higher frequencies across Europe. The additional departures offer more routing choices, but actual opportunities will depend on the capacity Oman Air releases on each flight and the connecting services available at Amsterdam and the other destinations.

The announcement provides no airfreight rates, minimum charges or guaranteed allocations, and it does not quantify the “reported strong demand” behind the decision. Shippers and forwarders can plan around seven weekly Muscat–Amsterdam flight days, but they cannot yet infer how much more tonnage the carrier will sell.

If Oman Air implements the Winter 2026/27 schedule as announced, the daily Muscat–Amsterdam service will become the clearest test of whether reported demand can support the next stage of its European expansion.
