Key points03

  • Daniele Rossi started as Electrolux Group CPO on Sept. 1, reporting to chief product officer Michelle Shi-Verdaasdonk
  • Rossi previously served as chief procurement officer at Italian steelmaker Acciaierie d'Italia and brings more than 30 years of experience
  • Electrolux will evaluate suppliers on carbon footprint, environmental performance and labor standards as sustainability becomes a sourcing criterion

Electrolux Group has appointed Daniele Rossi as its new chief procurement officer, tasking the 30-year supply chain veteran with pushing "design-to-cost" initiatives into the earliest stages of product research and development across the global appliance maker's sourcing operation.

Rossi started in the role on Sept. 1, according to a Sept. 23 press release from the Stockholm-headquartered manufacturer. He reports to Michelle Shi-Verdaasdonk, his predecessor in the procurement seat, who was named chief product officer in January after 14 months as CPO. The handover places procurement inside Electrolux's new product organization, a structure Shi-Verdaasdonk now leads.

The reporting line matters commercially. With buying decisions pulled closer to product engineering, Rossi sees an opening to attack cost before a product reaches the factory floor.

"By aligning component standardization and platform-sharing across global product families, we can reduce complexity and cost before a product ever hits production," Rossi said in the release.

The component standardization agenda carries direct consequences for Electrolux's direct-material suppliers. Fewer unique parts spread across more product families typically concentrates volume among a smaller set of component makers, rewarding suppliers that can support co-development while squeezing those tied to bespoke specifications.

Rossi, based in Susegana, Italy, arrives with more than three decades of experience spanning procurement, supply chain, quality and product development, the company said. His most recent post was chief procurement officer at Italian steelmaker Acciaierie d'Italia, giving him sourcing credentials from one of Europe's most input-cost-sensitive heavy industries.

His stated priorities for Electrolux include working with direct-material suppliers to co-develop sustainable products, accelerate time to market and strengthen supply resilience. The company plans to integrate sustainability criteria into sourcing decisions, evaluating suppliers on carbon footprint, environmental performance and adherence to labor standards.

"Sustainability and responsible sourcing are no longer optional; they are interconnected strategic imperatives and a 'must-have' for modern procurement," Rossi said.

He framed the sustainability push in commercial terms as well, arguing that a focus on responsible sourcing can deliver a "better selling price in the market" — a signal that Electrolux views environmental credentials as a pricing lever rather than pure compliance cost.

For forwarders and logistics providers serving the appliance sector, the appointment continues a pattern of procurement leaders consolidating their influence over total landed cost. Electrolux has previously moved to tighten its freight operations, streamlining its air freight booking process through e-booking channels in 2023, and a CPO with deep supply chain experience is positioned to extend that scrutiny across modes and lanes.

The leadership change also completes a rapid turnover at the top of Electrolux procurement. Shi-Verdaasdonk held the CPO role for only 14 months before her January elevation to chief product officer, and Rossi now inherits a function the company has deliberately folded into product development rather than run as a standalone corporate service.

Rossi's dual mandate — cost reduction through early-stage design choices and supplier vetting on environmental and labor performance — signals that Electrolux intends to squeeze value from both the bill of materials and the supplier base itself. Suppliers to the group should expect component standardization pressure, closer co-development engagement and stricter sustainability disclosures as the new CPO embeds his agenda.
