Constellation Cold Logistics will add 25,000 temperature-controlled pallet positions in Norway after agreeing to acquire Impruv Logistics AS, lifting the European operator's total capacity in the country to 90,000 pallet positions alongside what it describes as a strong transport presence.
The target, Impruv Logistics AS, is a Norwegian cold storage and food logistics business based in Langangen, near Porsgrunn in Southern Norway. The company was founded by industry professionals with extensive experience in food logistics, warehousing and supply chain management, and serves customers across the Norwegian food supply chain. Its model combines advanced cold storage infrastructure with a sharp operational efficiency and customer service focus.
For shippers in the Nordic food sector, the deal concentrates more refrigerated capacity in fewer hands. Constellation said the newly developed Porsgrunn-area site is strategically located to support food producers, importers and distributors across the region, which extends the buyer's Nordic platform beyond simple capacity arithmetic.
What does the deal change operationally?
Once the transaction completes, Impruv becomes part of Constellation's growing European network of temperature-controlled logistics facilities. The acquisition strengthens the company's position in Norway specifically — the 25,000 added pallet positions represent a 38% jump on the pre-deal national footprint of 65,000, bringing the countrywide total to 90,000.
That scale matters for food producers and importers negotiating cold storage contracts in the Nordics. Consolidation among temperature-controlled operators tends to tighten the negotiating position of shippers while widening the service reach of the acquiring network — in this case, storage integrated with transport capability across Norway.
The Impruv site also brings a technology angle. Chairman of the board Bernt Ove Søvik said the company was built around differentiated IT systems from day one.
"When we established Impruv Logistics AS, our vision was to create logistics for the future with unique IT solutions that gave our partners a competitive edge," Søvik said. "When the site in Porsgrunn now becomes a part of Constellation, we are confident that the companies have the best possibilities to develop further in a company that share our view of how to develop great services for their partners."
Why the founders sold
Impruv CEO Morten Hagen Vanneviken framed the sale as the logical next step for a business built over many years in food logistics and supply chain services. "We have spent many years building businesses within food logistics and supply chain services, always looking for better ways to support customers and improve efficiency," he said.
"Joining Constellation gives us the opportunity to continue that journey with a partner that understands our market, shares our long-term ambitions and brings the scale needed for the next phase of growth."
The emphasis on scale signals what Constellation intends to do with the asset: plug a purpose-built, newly developed facility into a wider European network rather than run it as a standalone national operation. For Norwegian food exporters and importers, that points toward broader route options and integrated storage-plus-transport propositions under one ownership structure.
A Nordic consolidation play
The transaction fits the broader pattern of consolidation in European temperature-controlled logistics, where mid-sized family- and founder-owned cold store operators increasingly sell to pan-European platforms chasing network density. Constellation, which positions itself as a European provider of temperature-controlled storage and logistics solutions, has now anchored itself in southern Norway with a facility designed to serve the wider Nordic region.
Neither party disclosed the transaction value or an expected completion date in the announcement.
For the Nordic food supply chain, the immediate commercial consequence is clear: 90,000 temperature-controlled pallet positions in Norway now sit within a single European network, with a transport operation attached. As Constellation integrates the Porsgrunn site, regional producers and distributors can expect further network-driven service expansion — and continued consolidation pressure on remaining independent cold storage operators.
