Key points05

  • Ben McLean, Ruan CEO since 2015, elected ATRI board chairman, succeeding Werner's Derek Leathers after four years.
  • ATRI adds TCW president Ben Banks and Werner's Nathan Meisgeier (with Werner since 2005) as new board members.
  • Netradyne appoints Melissa Ribeiro (25+ years HR experience) as CPO and Brion O'Connor (20 years) as CMO.
  • Atlas Van Lines' Bradley Beyer joins Movers for America's 15-member National Ambassador Network, founded in 2026.
  • Beyer has nearly 30 years of industry experience in military household goods and PCS relocations.

Ruan CEO Ben McLean is the new chairman of ATRI's board, taking over from Werner Enterprises' Derek Leathers after a four-year run. The American Transportation Research Institute also added two trucking executives: Ben Banks, president of TCW, and Nathan Meisgeier, president and chief legal officer of Werner Enterprises.

McLean has led Des Moines-based Ruan Transportation Management Systems since 2015 and has sat on ATRI's board since 2017 — eight years of institutional familiarity before the promotion. Banks brings Research Advisory Committee experience plus leadership stints in industry organizations. Meisgeier joined Werner in 2005 and currently oversees legal, safety, risk, human resources, and recruiting.

"We are excited to have Ben McLean lead the ATRI Board," said Rebecca Brewster, ATRI president and COO. "His commitment to research excellence and innovation will help drive the Institute forward for years to come. We also want to thank Derek Leathers for his dedicated service as chairman and welcome Ben Banks and Nathan Meisgeier to the board."

What does this change for carriers?

For a research shop that feeds the industry's operational benchmarking — safety, congestion, driver retention — board composition matters more than it looks. A chairman who has run a large private fleet for a decade will likely keep ATRI's research agenda anchored in practical operational questions rather than academic detours. For carriers and shippers, that means the annual priority list of research topics keeps its practitioner tilt.

Netradyne adds C-suite heft for its 'Physical AI' push

Netradyne, the AI fleet-safety camera and analytics vendor, appointed Melissa Ribeiro as chief people officer and Brion O'Conner as chief marketing officer. Ribeiro brings more than 25 years in global workforce development and organizational transformation; O'Connor has 20 years scaling marketing teams at technology companies.

The hires support three things at once: global expansion, AI platform development, and rising customer demand. CEO Avneesh Agrawal was blunt about the strategic framing. "Melissa and Brion each bring proven experience scaling technology companies through periods of rapid growth," he said. "As we expand beyond traditional fleet safety into Physical AI and build intelligence for the physical world, strengthening our brand and global organization is critical to our next stage of growth."

Ribeiro will run the global people organization, focused on talent development, leadership capabilities, and culture. O'Connor takes global marketing, with a mandate to accelerate growth across enterprise and mid-market fleets.

The phrase "Physical AI" — machine intelligence applied to physical-world operations, not just dashcams — signals where Netradyne wants to compete. Fleet-safety tech vendors are racing to widen their data moats, and every added fleet strengthens the analytics. Fleets evaluating camera systems should expect marketing to get louder and product roadmaps to stretch well beyond drowsy-driver alerts.

Atlas Van Lines manager joins military-move advocacy group

Atlas Van Lines Government Product Manager Bradley Beyer was elected to Movers for America's National Ambassador Network, a 15-member group of moving industry professionals pushing for policies that support military families' relocation services.

Beyer has nearly 30 years in the industry and will work on relationships with policymakers, industry stakeholders, and military families. The personal angle is real: he's the grandson of an Air Force staff sergeant.

"It's an honor to join this distinguished group dedicated to supporting service members' relocation experiences," Beyer said. "As the grandson of an Air Force Staff Sergeant, I'm proud to serve military families by working alongside my fellow ambassadors to advocate for meaningful improvements."

The network itself is young — established in 2026 — and lobbies for fewer delays and safer household goods handling in military relocations. Beyer's day job supporting military household shipments and Permanent Change of Station moves gives him direct field knowledge of where PCS logistics break down.

Why the personnel beat matters

None of these moves shift a single rate index on their own. But ATRI's board steers the industry's research agenda, Netradyne's hires signal where safety-tech capital is flowing, and the ambassador network shapes policy for one of the household-goods market's biggest customers — the US military. Watch whether ATRI's next research priorities list and Netradyne's product announcements reflect their new leadership's fingerprints.
