- Nurminen and Tarros launched a one-stop door-to-door service linking the Nordics with North Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean and Malta, bookable now in both directions.
- The Örebro–Parma block train runs two departures per week in each direction with a 2.5–3 day rail transit time, accepting LCL pallets, full container loads and complete trainloads.
- The Mediterranean leg runs via Tarros' network from Terminal del Golfo in La Spezia, about 109 km from Parma by truck, with Tarros Group and Carbox providing inland, terminal and maritime services.
Nurminen Logistics has paired its Örebro–Parma block train with Tarros Group's Mediterranean shipping network, opening a single-booked door-to-door chain from Sweden to North Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean and Malta.
The deal extends a rail corridor the Finnish operator launched in early 2026 and currently runs with two departures per week in each direction, at a rail transit time of 2.5 to 3 days between the Swedish and Italian hubs. Customers can book the combined service now, in both directions.
The product covers rail haulage, inland transport, maritime legs, terminal handling, freight forwarding, customs clearance and documentation — stages shippers previously had to coordinate separately across multiple providers.
"The real value for customers lies in the competitive transit time and simplicity of the service. We coordinate every stage of the journey, making a complex international transport chain straightforward for the customer," said Marjut Linnajärvi, vice president of International Rail Operations and Sales at Nurminen Logistics.
Rail spine, short-sea reach
On the Mediterranean side, the connection runs through Tarros' network via the Terminal del Golfo in La Spezia, roughly 109 kilometres from Parma, with trucking bridging the two points. From La Spezia, Tarros' short-sea services reach markets across North Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean and Malta.
Tarros Group and Carbox supply the inland transport, terminal handling and maritime components of the chain, Nurminen said.
The Sweden–Italy leg itself is more than a linehaul product. When Nurminen started the service in February, it bundled unloading, storage and distribution in both Italy and Sweden through a partnership with Lanzi Trasporti.
Cargo flexibility
The train accepts individual pallets and other LCL cargo as well as full container loads and complete trainloads — a spread that lets the operator aggregate smaller Nordic exporters onto the same departure slots used by FCL shippers, while giving large cargo owners the option of chartering full trains on the 2.5-to-3-day corridor.
For shippers moving goods between Scandinavia and Mediterranean markets, the arrangement compresses what has typically required separate rail, road, ferry and forwarding contracts into one coordinated booking — with customs and documentation handled inside the same product.
For Nurminen, the partnership converts a point-to-point rail service into a multi-market distribution platform without the Finnish company adding its own maritime capacity. For Tarros, it feeds Nordic cargo volumes into a short-sea network that competes with long-haul road transport on the Europe–Africa trade. Forwarders, in turn, gain a single interface for a corridor that previously demanded multi-vendor management.
The two weekly round-trip departures mark a step up in frequency — Nurminen says the service has run at that cadence only "since a couple of weeks" — and the operator's investment in partnerships on both ends of the corridor suggests it is positioning the Örebro–Parma route as the Nordic gateway leg of a broader Mediterranean distribution network.
