- Philadelphia gains dedicated parcel facilities, warehouse space, new equipment and increased safety stock.
- Montevideo operations will relocate to a new site in early October 2027.

- Quotes from Barbara Morgan (Regional President, Americas) and CEO Aymeric Chandavoine frame the move as a response to more geographically distributed pharma supply chains.
Envirotainer is opening a second Los Angeles station, expanding its Philadelphia facility and relocating its Montevideo operation to a new site in October 2027, adding active temperature-controlled container capacity across North and South America.
The Stockholm-based ULD operator told Air Cargo Week the investments target pharmaceutical shippers responding to shifting trade lanes and more geographically distributed supply chains.
What is changing at each hub?
The new Los Angeles facility adds ground handling and repair capacity for Envirotainer's flagship RAP e2 and CryoSure containers, alongside parcel rental and sales. Philadelphia gains dedicated parcel facilities, additional warehouse square footage, new ground-service equipment and higher safety stock to shorten fulfilment cycles. The Montevideo site, scheduled to open in early October 2027, replaces the current Uruguayan station while preserving the existing service offering.
Why the Americas now?
Pharma manufacturing volumes in North and Latin America continue to migrate, and cold-chain shippers want shorter positioning loops for active containers. By adding a second LA station, Envirotainer reduces repositioning pressure on its fleet serving transpacific and intra-Americas airfreight lanes out of LAX.
Philadelphia's investment addresses the opposite problem: faster inland fulfilment for biotech and vaccine flows moving through the US East Coast. Montevideo extends reach into Southern Cone pharma exports, a lane that has grown as Brazilian and Argentine producers diversify routes.
What the operators are saying
Barbara Morgan, Regional President, Americas at Envirotainer, framed the expansion as a resilience play. "Supply chain resilience is ultimately about giving our customers confidence that the right solutions, capabilities and expertise will be available when and where they need them," she said.
CEO Aymeric Chandavoine pointed to structural shifts in pharma logistics. "The Americas is a strategically important region for pharmaceutical manufacturing, distribution and innovation, and our customers are looking for partners that can support them as their supply chains evolve," Chandavoine said.
What it means for shippers and forwarders
For pharmaceutical manufacturers and forwarders, the practical effect is shorter equipment lead times at three nodes that anchor the Americas cold-chain network. Active container availability at LAX improves resilience against transpacific capacity crunches, while higher Philadelphia safety stock reduces the risk of stockouts during peak vaccine shipping windows.
Forwarders booking Envirotainer's RAP e2 fleet should expect faster container turnaround in Los Angeles and Philadelphia, and uninterrupted service in Montevideo through the October 2027 cutover.
With the Montevideo relocation 22 months out and no further Americas station announcements disclosed, Envirotainer's next move will likely track pharma manufacturing reshoring trends and any new transpacific capacity shifts into Latin America.
