Key points05
- CMA CGM raises France–Tunisia RoRo BAF by roughly 7–8% effective 1 November 2026.
- Full rolling unit surcharge rises from EUR 718 to EUR 775; empty units from EUR 475 to EUR 513.
- Other rolling units go from EUR 80/LM to EUR 86/LM; passenger cars from EUR 273 to EUR 294 per unit.
- Breakbulk BAF increases from EUR 44 to EUR 47 per CBM.
- The increase applies to both import and export cargo and follows bunker price changes since the last revision.
CMA CGM will raise the bunker adjustment factor on its France–Tunisia RoRo South service by roughly 7% to 8% from 1 November 2026, lifting the surcharge on a loaded rolling unit from EUR 718 to EUR 775. The increase applies to both import and export cargo moving on the short-sea corridor, and the carrier's Short Sea Lines Intra Europe division says it reflects movements in bunker prices since its previous surcharge revision.
For shippers, the change is immediate and mechanical: every full rolling unit crossing between France and Tunisia on the service will draw an extra EUR 57 in fuel surcharge from 1 November. That is not a one-off spot move but a scheduled recalibration of a standing surcharge — meaning budgeted per-unit costs on the lane shift upward for as long as the new BAF holds.
What are the new surcharge levels?
The revision touches every cargo category on the service:
- Full rolling units: EUR 718 per unit rises to EUR 775 per unit — a 7.9% increase.
- Empty rolling units: EUR 475 per unit rises to EUR 513 per unit — up 8%.
- Other rolling units, charged per linear metre: EUR 80/LM rises to EUR 86/LM — a 7.5% increase.
- Passenger cars and minivans: EUR 273 per unit rises to EUR 294 per unit — up 7.7%.
- Breakbulk cargo: EUR 44 per cubic metre rises to EUR 47 per CBM — an increase of 6.8%.
The "other rolling units" category is broad, covering trucks, earth-moving equipment on wheels or tracks, duty trucks, agricultural machinery and livestock trucks. For operators moving construction or farming equipment on the lane, the per-linear-metre jump from EUR 80 to EUR 86 compounds quickly across a full deck load.
Who feels the increase first?
Forwarders booking RoRo space between France and Tunisia will absorb the change at the point of quotation for any sailing on or after 1 November 2026. Because the surcharge applies symmetrically to imports and exports, Tunisian exporters of automotive and agricultural goods face the same per-unit uplift as European shippers sending vehicles and machinery south.
The rise lands unevenly across cargo types in absolute terms. A shipper moving a passenger car pays an additional EUR 21 per unit, while a full rolling unit carries an extra EUR 57. Breakbulk operators see the smallest proportional increase at 6.8%, but per-cubic-metre charges accumulate across large project consignments.
The percentages sit in a narrow band. CMA CGM has applied increases of approximately 7% to 8% across all categories, depending on the cargo class, which points to a single driver — the fuel price index the carrier tracks — rather than differentiated cost pressure by cargo type.
What happens next on the lane?
BAF mechanisms are by design reversible, and carriers typically revisit them as bunker prices move. Shippers on the France–Tunisia corridor should watch for the next revision cycle: if fuel prices ease, the surcharge table could roll back, but with effect from 1 November 2026, per-unit costs on the RoRo South service stand at their highest published level since the previous adjustment.
