Key points03
- ClassNK certified Accelleron's Tekomar XPERT Engine and Emissions Desk under its Innovation Endorsement framework.
- The two tools are currently deployed on approximately 3,000 vessels.
- Emissions Desk can transfer data directly to the ClassNK MRV Portal and supports IMO and EU regulatory compliance.
ClassNK has certified two Accelleron digital tools — Tekomar XPERT Engine and Emissions Desk — that are already deployed on roughly 3,000 vessels worldwide, giving shipowners independently verified engine performance analytics and emissions reporting at a moment when regulatory scrutiny of fuel consumption data is intensifying.
The Japanese classification society awarded both products its Products & Solutions certification under the Innovation Endorsement framework, a scheme designed to recognise digital technologies that go beyond traditional class requirements. Accelleron confirmed the certification covers the two solutions within its LOREKA360° maritime platform.
ClassNK examined the tools' functions related to data acquisition, data handling and analytics, and reviewed the relevant security documentation. The certification independently confirms the documented functions and data processes of both solutions — a meaningful distinction for operators who need defensible data trails for regulators, charterers and insurers.
What the tools actually do
Tekomar XPERT Engine monitors engine performance and delivers recommendations to operators on improving efficiency. The software works across different engine makes and sizes, and lets operators benchmark performance across individual vessels and entire fleets. For owners running mixed fleets — or secondhand tonnage with varied engine pedigrees — that vendor-neutral coverage removes a common barrier to fleet-wide analytics adoption.
Emissions Desk converts vessel data into emissions reporting and operational insights. The solution supports compliance with several regulatory requirements, including IMO and EU frameworks. Critically for owners trading in European waters, its reporting software can transfer relevant data directly to the ClassNK MRV Portal, shortening the compliance chain between onboard data collection and regulatory submission.
"This certification provides valuable independent recognition of the data processing and analytical functions of Tekomar XPERT Engine and Emissions Desk," said Shailesh Shirsekar, Head of Global Operations and Sales Digital Solutions at Accelleron. "These functions are designed to support operational decisions related to fuel consumption and emissions across a wide range of vessels."
Commercial implications
For shipowners and operators, third-party certification of data-handling functions addresses a growing commercial reality: fuel-efficiency claims and emissions figures increasingly underpin charter-party negotiations, EU ETS cost allocations and FuelEU compliance calculations. Tools whose data pipelines carry class-society verification are easier to defend in commercial disputes over performance claims.
For carriers and fleet managers, the ability to benchmark across mixed engine types at scale — 3,000 vessels already use the two tools — positions the analytics as a standardised layer rather than a niche add-on. For Accelleron, the ClassNK endorsement strengthens its hand in a competitive maritime digitalisation market where classification-society validation serves as a procurement filter for many owners, particularly in Japan and across Asian tonnage.
Part of a wider suite
The two certified tools form part of Accelleron's broader LOREKA360° digital suite. The platform also includes OptiNav AI for voyage optimisation and OptiHull for hull and propeller performance monitoring. Operators can deploy the modules separately or as a complete suite, which lets owners target specific pain points — fuel consumption, hull fouling, route efficiency — without committing to the full platform.
The certification signals where verification is heading: as IMO and EU emissions frameworks tighten and MRV data flows become commercially decisive, class societies are moving from certifying steel to certifying software. More certifications of this kind across the digital platform space look likely as regulators and charterers demand independently validated emissions and performance data.
