Key points05
- TMEIC's Pulse Mobile will power truck and gate operations at Boluda Maritime Terminals Tenerife.
- Prior Pulse Mobile deployments resolved up to 80% of issues before trucks reached the gate.
- The platform cut gate cycle times by up to 50% and lifted lane availability to up to 98%.
- Pulse Mobile is vendor-agnostic, ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2 aligned, and GDPR compliant.
- Boluda Maritime Terminals operates nine terminals: four in Iberia and five in the Canary Islands.
Truck turnarounds at Boluda Maritime Terminals Tenerife will run on a digital gate platform after TMEIC and Boluda Shipping agreed a new operational model for managing truck and terminal interactions at the Canary Islands facility, powered by TMEIC's Pulse Mobile.
The deployment reconfigures the entire truck process at the Tenerife box terminal. The cloud-based platform coordinates Boluda, carriers and drivers from the moment a work order is issued to pick up or deliver a load.
"Boluda and the trucking community get full visibility, all the way through the validation of operational information, incident management, terminal access, ground operations and departure," TMEIC explained.
What changes for carriers and drivers?
Pulse Mobile integrates with existing terminal operating systems (TOS) and gate infrastructure. It is vendor-agnostic, so Boluda can layer it over its installed base rather than rip out equipment. Its hybrid cloud architecture is designed to meet security requirements in line with ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2 principles, and it supports full GDPR compliance for European operations.
For drayage operators and forwarders moving cargo through Tenerife, the commercial appeal is predictability: fewer turnaways at the gate, fewer manual document checks and shorter queues during peak windows.
How much time can it save?
TMEIC claims results from earlier real-world deployments, calculated using historical customer data, deployment performance metrics and hardware cost estimates:
- Up to 80% of issues resolved before trucks arrive at the gate
- Gate cycle times reduced by up to 50%
- Lane availability increased to up to 98%
Those figures, if replicated in Tenerife, would materially lift truck throughput per lane at a terminal serving a remote island market where port capacity constraints bite harder than on mainland trade lanes.
What does it mean for gate staff and kit?
The platform also trims Boluda's reliance on physical gate equipment such as kiosks and printers — a direct capex and maintenance saving. On the safety side, clerks can manage entry processes away from heavy machinery, noise and the elements, cutting exposure to exhaust fumes and injury risks.
That shifts gate staffing from a trackside, equipment-bound role to a remote, screen-based one — a model increasingly common across automated and semi-automated terminals in Europe.
Where does Boluda operate?
Boluda Maritime Terminals runs nine terminals in total:
- Four on the Iberian Peninsula: Seville, Vilagarcía, Cádiz (Concasa) and Santander
- Five in the Canary Islands: Las Palmas, La Palma, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
Tenerife is therefore a single-site pilot-scale deployment within a wider network where the same digital gate model could be extended, given the platform's vendor-agnostic integration claims.
For shippers and carriers serving the Canaries, the near-term effect should be smoother truck flows and fewer gate-based exceptions at Tenerife; for Boluda, the economics rest on whether the claimed 50% cycle-time reductions and 80% pre-gate issue resolution translate to island-scale volumes. If the Tenerife rollout delivers, further rollouts across Boluda's eight other terminals are the logical next step.
