Key points04
- Amer Shipping ordered two more CDS Dry Cargo 110 newbuilds, bringing the series to six vessels.
- Deliveries are scheduled for Q4 2027 and Q2 2028; the first, AM Lianova, goes to the Stream Shipping JV with MSG eG.
- Amer Shipping operates nearly 60 vessels and moves around 9m tonnes of cargo annually across five countries.
- Stream Shipping already runs the AM Voyager and AM Explorer and holds an option on another ship.
Amer Shipping has signed for two more CDS Dry Cargo 110 newbuilds at Concordia Damen, extending its series of the shallow-draught river bulkers to six hulls and deepening one of the most sustained inland newbuilding programmes on the Rhine corridor.
The 110 m vessels are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2027 and the second quarter of 2028. The first, to be named AM Lianova, will join Stream Shipping, Amer's joint venture with German cooperative MSG eG. The second will enter Amer Shipping's own fleet.
Skippers Bram and Lilian Timmer, who currently sail on the AM Explorer, will become co-owners of the AM Lianova alongside Amer and MSG through Stream Shipping. The ownership structure keeps crews financially tied to the tonnage they operate — a model that has run through the programme from the start.
The order extends a newbuilding sequence that began with the Adriana Maria, since renamed AM Voyager, followed by the AM Explorer and Johannes Sr. A fourth vessel, Arnold Sr, is due to be named in October. Stream already operates the AM Voyager and AM Explorer and holds an option on a further ship.
Splash first reported Amer's move into Concordia Damen's CDS Dry Cargo 110 design in 2023, when the company contracted the initial pair. The relationship expanded again last November with another CDS 110 order, placed after delivery of the first three ships.
For shippers, the fleet growth signals continued capacity investment in shallow-draught dry cargo tonnage at a time when European inland operators face low-water disruptions on the Rhine. The CDS 110 design's draught profile is built precisely for that constraint, and six units give Amer and Stream more schedule reliability on affected stretches.
For Concordia Damen, the repeat business confirms the Dutch yard's grip on a customer that has now ordered in four separate rounds since 2023. For forwarders and cargo owners routing dry bulk through the region, the added tonnage — spread across two operators — broadens the pool of modern hulls available between the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany and Switzerland.
Amer Shipping operates close to 60 vessels and moves around 9m tonnes of cargo annually across those five markets. With deliveries running into 2028 and an option still open on another unit, the programme's trajectory points to further fleet expansion rather than a plateau.
